Four Foods To Lower Blood Pressure

on

High blood pressure (hypertension) is a dangerous condition that can result in organ failure or even death if left untreated. The pressure placed against the artery

walls can damage these otherwise sensitive vessels, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, aneurysm, and numerous other related health problems.

If you have hypertension, you need to seek professional medical assistance! However, along with that,  here are “Four Foods To Lower Blood Pressure” but, don’t rely on them alone!

1. Bananas

The country’s most popular fruit, bananas, are known to naturally lower blood pressure. This is due to its high concentration of potassium, which acts as mother

nature’s own hypertension medicine. Just a single banana packs as much as 450 milligrams of potassium, making it a powerhouse food for people who suffer from high blood pressure. Bananas do, however, carry a large amount of sugar (around 15 grams), so consume them in moderation.

2. Avocado

Another high-potassium fruit that’s perfect for people with high blood pressure is avocado. While the exact concentration of potassium varies, a typical avocado contains anywhere between 800-950 milligrams. Avocados also contain polysaturated and monosatured fats, both of which are known to improve heart health. And unlike bananas, this is a low-sugar fruit. So the next time you’re looking for a snack, try some avocado spread with crackers or fruit.

3. Whole-Grain Oats

Oats, especially the whole-grain variety, are chalk full of fiber, which aids in digestion while simultaneously lowering blood pressure. Try to get into the habit of eating 1-2 servings of whole-grain oats per day. Whether it’s a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast or organic oats sprinkled over a cup of yogurt for a mid-day snack, the possibilities are endless.

4. Dark Chocolate

Chocolate is often viewed as being an empty-calorie food with no real benefit. However, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Now don’t get me wrong, milk chocolate — the variety produced with cow’s milk — is high in fat and high sugar with little-to-no nutritional value. But dark chocolate — the organic variety without cow’s milk — is known to lower blood pressure levels. Dark chocolate contains a high concentration of the naturally occurring antioxidant known as flavonoid. When choosing chocolate, a good rule of thumb is to look for a variety with at least 85% cocoa.
